Overcoming Giants
We all have giants.
Some live under our beds, others in our closets, and still others we carry around on our backs. These giants keep us up at night, make us live as actors/actresses in our own lives, and tear down the very fabric of who we are. Many times we wonder how to remove these Giants and kick them out of our lives, but who can really move a Giant? Like moving a house (if you have never seen this done click here!), moving Giants takes time, support, and something stronger than ourselves.
Time. I know everyone’s desire is to have things change overnight. Well at least I want them to. Like loosing weight, I know I need to, but eating healthy seems so difficult right now. I don’t mind working out and do so 3-4 times a week, but it’s all negated by my eating. I wish that I could just eat well one night, or for one week, or even one month and it would be done! But unfortunately loosing weight is harder than gaining and it typically takes twice as long to loose what is gained. Very similar is getting rid of those Giants. It’s easy to get them in our lives, but it takes time to get rid of them. So patience.
Support. Everyone needs support and many times we fail to get the support we need. I wish that I could say there is a good solution for this, but I can’t. What is needed is for people to surround themselves with different types of support systems. Such as, the family support system (whether natural or adopted), the Church family support system, and the friend support system. The family support system are those people that we can go to, tell our problems and they respond with expected caring and encouragement. The Church family, encourages our need to rely on something greater than ourselves and at times give needed good advice. Finally, the friend support system tells us to quit crying like a little girl (sorry girls), get over it because your killing the party. All of these systems support one aspect of the healing process and we are lost with all the aspects.
Something Stronger. This is the tricky one. When we think of something stronger we typically think physical. The person who has it together, the person who isn’t afraid to speak their mind, or that really irritating individual who has the fitness level only matched by world athletes. In reality, we need to be thinking metaphysical (or outside of this world). This is hard because we want touchy feely things, but for most life problems they are solved within ourselves and that healing comes from God. This is the hardest reality for people to accept. But reality is that if solely rely on Him, he will make his will known by removing the Giants that need to be removed and helping us overcome the ones that need to be conquered.
Time, Support, and something Greater will prove an effective solution for removing all Giants in your life. I will now end with these words from Paul:
“And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose” (Romans 8:28).
Have a great day!
